Fans of Manchester United are getting desperate to see some change on the field in the upcoming season, so much so that one supporter in particular has started a GoFundMe page in hopes that it will raise the requisite funds to sign a player that would help solidify the squad.

A user, only known as Ian M, came up with the 'Baleba to Man Utd fund,’ and it was live and open to contributions by August 6. The description reads,

“We need this to happen we need this to happen we need this to happen we need this to happen."

The eventual goal is to accumulate 120 million pounds. As of this writing, there has been a total of 171 pounds in donations.

Who is Carlos Baleba?

Carlos Baleba is a Cameroonian soccer player who plays at the central or defensive midfield position. The 21-year-old started his professional career playing in France for the Lille Olympique Sporting Club, where he made his debut on August 7, 2022, in a match against Auxerre. He would go on to appear in a total of 21 matches over the course of two full seasons.

Following his time in France, Carlos Baleba decided to move to the English Premier League in 2023. Brighton & Hove Albion announced his signing in August 2023 on a reported 5-year contract. He has appeared in 61 matches over the past two seasons in the EPL. The defensive stalwart has also finally dipped his feet into international waters, as he made his inaugural appearance on the Cameroonian national team in their June 2024 World Cup qualifiers.

The Athletic has reported that Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Carlos Baleba, although they may not have the liquidity to do so. To make matters worse for the club, limited player sales during the transfer window have also hindered their capacity to make a splash signing due to financial fair play regulations.

The team is currently being fully re-tooled after a disastrous campaign and have just spent roughly 200 million pounds on new acquisitions. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo have been added to bolster the attack and will presumably play on the wings. To complete the vision for a retooled offensive approach, they have also signed striker Benjamin Sesko, formerly of RB Leipzig.
