Actress Maria Bello and chef Dominique Crenn have called off their marriage after a year of staying married to each other. According to People magazine, the reason behind the split was irreconcilable differences
The former couple had their engagement in 2019 and got hitched in Mexico last year, in May. TMZ reported that the divorce was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The media outlet also noted that the couple had already separated on April 7, 2025, as per the court documents.
According to Maria Bello’s filing, both sides had agreed to decide on spousal support through a written agreement. The matter of dividing their individual properties was also set to be settled in writing, with both parties sharing the cost of mediation.
The two first appeared together at the Academy Awards in 2020. At that time, Maria Bello told Entertainment Tonight:
“We’re pretty happy, considering that we just got engaged. So this is sort of our fun time out in Hollywood for the first time. It was very surprising and meant to be, but about time. I’ve finally grown up enough to get married.”
For the unversed, Dominique Crenn is the only American female chef to receive three Michelin stars. She runs a restaurant in San Francisco, Atelier Crenn.
Dominique was diagnosed with breast cancer. She remembered that Maria immediately promised to stay by her side throughout the entire journey.
Maria said she knew they were meant to be together and shared that she had never smiled as much as she did while being with Dominique Crenn. In 2020, Maria Bello told People magazine:
“Dom was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after we fell in love. So, it’s been quite a year.”
Here’s how Maria Bello reserved a seat at Dominique Crenn’s restaurant
According to The New York Times, Maria Bello sent a message to Dominique Crenn for a reservation at her restaurant. She responded affirmatively. Recalling that day, Bello said:
“It was the most amazing food I ever had. She was so kind, we knew that night we’d be friends forever. But I wasn’t in a dating place. She wasn’t in a dating place.”
Maria Bello spoke to People magazine in December 2023 and reflected on their engagement, saying:
“We're such horrible planners, I have to say, both of us. Plus we're working all over the world. But finally we have the wedding planner, we have the date, we have the location. And our save the date says, ‘Yep, we're finally doing it.’”
At that time, Bello shared that she and Dominique Crenn had faced major life challenges together, including cancer, COVID, and now taking the step of commitment. She mentioned that she had never been married before, not even to her son’s father, which made this new chapter with Crenn feel especially meaningful.
For her, choosing a partner at this stage in life felt exciting and significant. At their wedding, Maria Bello shared that she had experienced many passionate relationships with both men and women, but never expected to get married.
When she met Dominique Crenn and began falling in love, she realized the connection was much deeper. At that point in her life, being older, the love felt more mature, though they also shared playful moments. Dominique added that it felt special to know she had someone by her side who would be there for her until the end.
