Greta Gerwig is once again teaming up with Mark Ronson for her highly anticipated Narnia adaptation, marking a collaboration that would serve as the backdrop for the films' premise. Ronson and Gerwig have previously worked on Barbie, Greta Gerwig's blockbuster that was highly praised for it's soundtrack. Ronson co-wrote and co-produced five songs in the film, along with working on the film's score and serving as the executive producer as well.

Filming for the Narnia film is going steady, with shooting taking place in London and Shepperton Studios since August 2025. The film will be based on the 1955 novel The Magician's Nephew, which is the sixth published and first chronological novel in the children's book series The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis.

In an interview with BBC Radio in 2024, Gerwig talked about being in a place of "terror" as she opened up about adapting the film as she said,

I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia, I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by. … As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly… it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman.”

With that being said, the film has seen steady developments as of now. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Narnia film.

Greta Gerwig is bringing her own spin to The Chronicles of Narnia, with Netflix working on a fresh new adaptation of C.S. Lewis' iconic book franchise. The first film has been confirmed to be based on The Magician's Nephew, which will mark a brand new beginning for the franchise as it explores the origins of the White Witch.

The film will follow Digory Dirke and Polly Plummer as they stumble into magical worlds that will reveal the origins of Narnia, Jadis the White Witch and even the wardrobe that later transports the Pevensie children. While the novel is set in around 1900, Gerwig has shifted the timeline to post-war 1955 London, putting her own twist to the narrative.

The cast for the film includes rising newcomers like David McKenna as Digory and Beatrice Campbell as Polly while Emma Mackey is confirmed to play Jadis, the White Witch. Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan are also set to play key roles, while Daniel Craig is rumored to play Andrew Ketterley.

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew will be in theaters on November 26, 2026.
