Marty Supreme gets its world premiere at the New York Film Festival

Marty Supreme got its world premiere on Monday, October 6th, at the 2025 New York Film Festival. Director Josh Safdie, as well as Timothée Chalamet (who plays Marty Mauser), introduced the film to the audience at the festival.

The official X handle of the festival stated that it was a secret screening, and the audience was taken by surprise. Marty Supreme is produced by Safdie, Eli Bush, Chalamet, Ronald Bronstein, and Anthony Katagas.

The story is set in the 1950s and follows Mauser, who decides to make it big in the world of ping pong. It is reported that the film is partly inspired by the life of the late table tennis player and author Marty Reisman. Here is a list of its other cast members:

  • Gwyneth Paltrow as Carol Dunne
  • Fran Drescher as Mrs. Mauser
  • Kevin O'Leary as Milton Rockwell
  • Odessa A'zion
  • Tyler Okonma
  • Philippe Petit
  • Abel Ferrara
  • Penn Jillette
  • Sandra Bernhard

Safdie has revealed that he finished the film at 2 am in the night, just hours before the surprise screening. The filmmaking brother duo (along with Benny Safdie), also known as the Safdie brothers, have directed films like 2017's Good Time and 2019's Uncut Gems. Last year, it was reported that the brothers would pursue solo careers in direction. Marty Supreme marks the solo directorial debut of Josh.

Benny has recently directed the biographical sports drama film The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson as Mark Kerr.

Marty Supreme is set to be released in theaters on December 25, 2025, on Christmas Eve.
