Marvel has been expanding its MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) for the past several years. The studio has been gearing up for two of their major films in recent memory, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which will be released in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Both these films have reportedly generated hype among viewers for many reasons, including the return of some of the original superheroes. Amid all this, the studio has just confirmed yet another film, which will be released sometime in 2028. So let us look into this MCU project and all the details that are out so far.
Marvel announces another film which will be out in 2028
On Wednesday, Disney made an announcement that Marvel Studios will be releasing a film on December 15, 2028. The film is yet to be titled and it will be one of the four titles from the studio to release in that year. Further details have not been revealed. In the past, the studio has changed release dates and shuffled films, so it won't be surprising if these four films come out at different times.
The studio has a jam-packed release window for the years 2026 and 2027. It will begin with this year's July release, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The next year, the studio is planning to release Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July and Avengers: Doomsday later in December. The year 2027 will have another untitled film along with Avengers: Secret Wars, releasing in the theatres.
Doomsday will mark the return of the Russo brothers as directors for the first time since 2019’s Endgame, along with several returning actors. Its sequel, Secret Wars, will be concluding the Multiverse Saga. After that, the studio is expected to focus on characters they have acquired with 20th Century Fox, including the X-Men.
Back in May, Disney CEO Bob Iger confessed that they ended up creating more only to fill their streaming platform. He said,
“We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more. We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.”
Hopefully, Iger’s words prove true, as fans await all their forthcoming films.
