Mixed Martial Arts legend Randy Couture was in a tragic accident after his vehicle crashed at a racetrack in Kansas City while preparing for his debut with the National Hot Rod Association. The UFC Hall of Famer was then airlifted to a burn centre with “first- and second-degree burns, trauma injuries and smoke inhalation.” The car wreck that happened during the accident also resulted in broken ribs.

Randy Couture was released from the burn center in Las Vegas on Tuesday and is now undergoing outpatient treatments as his recovery continues.

National Hot Rod Association Debut

The 62-year-old was quite excited for this new venture in life after he received his NHRA Prod Mod license earlier this year.

In an interview on NHRA.com, he said, “It’s not something I ever saw myself doing, but neither was fighting, and neither was acting, and those things turned out pretty well."
He further added, “This is a new way to tickle that competitive spirit that I've had most of my life; a new place for me to get competitive and make a mark in racing. I’ll bring all the things I developed as a wrestler and martial artist into this realm and see what we can do. I have no idea how it’s going to go, but I'm excited about the opportunities.”
While in a past interview he shared his love for the sport, "I’ve been a fan of racing for 12, 13 years. From up in the stands it looks really easy—oh they just go fast … it’s so much more involved.”

In the sphere of sports, Couture truly is a jack of all trades. Randy, who in his MMA career has been given the nicknames "The Natural" or "Captain America," received both light heavyweight and heavyweight titles during his UFC tenure and was inducted into the promotion’s Hall of Fame in 2006. He has also won against the likes of Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Tim Sylvia, Gabriel Gonzaga and Mark Coleman during his MMA career. Randy Couture also has acting credits in his illustrious career and now serves as a commentator for the Professional Fighters League.

Though Randy Couture has multiple skills and achievements under his belt and is reportedly bound to make a full recovery, it is unclear where his future in racing will go from here. However, what is more important is the fact that he survived such a terrifying accident.
