My 600-Lb. Life season 11 alum Latonya Pottain has died. She was 40 years old.

According to People Magazine, Pottain succumbed to cardiac arrest on May 17 at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She had been hospitalized after having difficulty breathing, her brother told TMZ.

People Magazine has further reported that the television personality's cause of death has been ruled as chronic congestive heart failure, per a preliminary finding from the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office. However, a final autopsy has yet to take place.

Latonya Pottain's life and legacy explored:

According to E! News, Latonya Pottain met her demise at an inpatient medical rehabilitation facility.

“She experienced a medical event and was transported to Christus Highland Hospital by emergency medical services,” authorities told the outlet in a statement, “where she was later pronounced deceased at 22:29 hours on May 17, 2025.”

Latonya's brother informed TMZ that in the hours preceding her demise, family members were visiting her at her home that morning when they noticed her breathing irregularities. She apparently appeared “extremely uncomfortable.” Shortly after, they received a call from a nurse informing them that Latonya had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Latonya Pottain's demise comes months after she launched a GoFundMe initiative to help with "the most challenging time of my life.”

"I’m currently getting close to my highest weight of 740 pounds and I worked extremely hard to get it down,” she wrote in February. “Now I currently weigh about 705 pounds and have been bedridden since June 2024 due to severe health issues.”

Latonya Pottain made her debut on the TLC series after having struggled to lose weight for several years. During her time on the show, she reflected on how she turned to food for comfort after she lost her mother young and her father abandoned them. During the season, she managed to bring her weight down to 505 pounds, having started at 531 pounds.

"However, after the show aired, I experienced overwhelming backlash, which sent me into a deep depression," she wrote on her GoFundMe page. "My mental health suffered, and I became fearful of undergoing weight loss surgery."

The next year, she shifted to Houston to start afresh, though not long after, she got into an abusive relationship. During the same time, she was informed that her father had been diagnosed with cancer.

“Unfortunately, my health continued to decline,” she continued, “and I developed severe sciatica nerve pain, which caused extreme stomach cramps. I was prescribed fentanyl, but my body rejected the medication, leading me to begin therapy. Now, I am completely bedridden and unable to get to the hospital because EMTs say transporting me would be a fire hazard due to my weight,” she added. “This has been an incredibly difficult journey, and I truly want to fight for my health and my life.”

People Magazine has reported that during the show, Houston-based bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan voiced his concern about Latonya Pottain's health and urged that she could turn around by making changes to her lifestyle.
