NBA recruit Chandler Bing is done with the assumptions.

Bing is a senior at Pace Academy in Atlanta and announced his commitment to play college basketball at Vanderbilt University on April 29. He swears he wasn't named after the late Matthew Perry's character on the hit '90s sitcom, Friends.

Instead, the Atlanta native, who averaged 19-plus points, 6-plus rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game for Pace last season, revealed he was named after a bishop:

"My parents weren't even thinking about the show," Bing told The Tennessean. "My mom has seen the show, but when they were naming me, I guess she didn't watch it that much, wasn't even thinking about that."

Chandler Bing says he's okay with the jokes about his name, and reflects on his commitment to Vanderbilt

Speaking with the outlet, Chandler Bing, 18, revealed he never really gave the popular show a shot:

"I actually haven't watched the show," he said. "But I never really had a problem with [the jokes]," said Bing, noting that he's heard several jokes about his name, "especially" when he was younger.
"Once people told me about it, I was like, 'Okay, well, I know I'm going to get it a lot now," he continued.

Bing, who now prepares to join the Commodores this season, says he is excited to be "playing against the best guys" in his first year. The Tennessean has also reported that the sportsman received offers from Georgia State, Texas State, and Troy:

"Playing against the best guys ... that was definitely a big part of it," he said.
"It was a pretty easy decision for me. Going up there, seeing the campus, the facilities, the city. It definitely was a spot, a place where I can grow on and off the court," he added.

He took to both X and Instagram to announce his commitment earlier this week as he uploaded a carousel of images of himself, sporting the Vanderbilt jersey and the number 3.

Fans also began questioning if Chandler Bing was related to Dave Bing, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and former Mayor of Detroit. However, according to the Leaf Chronicle, the former never met him.

Dave Bing, who served as a member of both the NBA's 50th and 75th anniversary teams, and the founder of Bing Steel, is Chandler Bing's grandfather's first cousin. This makes him a distant cousin, though he is also former NBA player Jalen Rose's godfather.
