Over the weekend, a horrible tragedy has befallen Minnesota Timberwolves' Naz Reid. On Saturday night, the NBA player's sister, Toraya Reid, was shot and killed. Toraya, who was 28 years old, was killed in the fatal incident at the Paragon Apartments in Jackson Township.

According to Sports Illustrated, a 29-year-old suspect, Shaquille Green, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was found by the police with multiple gun wounds on her body, around 11 am at the apartment complex.

The suspect, Shaquille Green, was in a relationship with Toraya Reid and fled the scene after the incident, but was caught by officers in the attempt. They arrived at the scene after a 911 call was made regarding gunfire. According to a statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer,
"A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, identified Green – who has been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid – as the individual responsible for her death."
Naz Reid's younger sister, Jakahya, expressed her grievance on social media, saying,
"Imma say this one time and one time f*cking only. My sister has a name. She is not just some girl, She’s not just the nba super star sister. She has a name and that is Toraya Reid. Respect her sh*t or don’t mention her at all."
In an interview with MSP Magazine in 2023, Naz Reid commented on being the middle child and having two sisters, saying,
"My older sister is super protective, she treats us like she's our parent."
The player is preparing for his seventh year with the franchise after signing a five-year, $125 million extension earlier this summer, just before the start of the season. Naz has not come out publicly and made a statement; however, on Sunday, he posted a story with his sister.
