It has been quite an eventful time in the world of NBA with the FBI arresting several individuals, such as the Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones on Thursday. After the news, Utah Jazz forward Kevin Love took to social media and shared his reaction. He posted an edited image of Billups and Rozier with both of their faces pasted on the viral Coldplay meme, with the caption, "NO (DRAFT) KINGS!!!" and the song "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers.
However, it seems he realized his mistake after facing backlash, including a comment from Trail Blazers Damian Lillard, who said, "Weak a*s sh*t." He soon deleted the post and wrote on his story,
"Spoke to Dame and he opened my eyes to this being a real life situation for two of my former teammates and brothers. I took a particular post down because we all know they are going through it. As are their collective families."
Kevin Love also responded to the comment, saying,
"@damianlillard nah, we aren’t going to do this…Chauncey has been my OG since 2010 - we won a World Championship together and I love and respect him. T-Ro is my brother, he knows where I stand and I supported him through the struggles last year. Comedy pushes boundaries. Social commentary that’s all in jest. Same shit with Jimmy and the Heat last year. I support our shared elite fraternity. And respect to you always."
Love was teammates with Rozier last season, while Billups was coaching Lillard, but was placed on indefinite leave.
Multiple NBA members arrested
As part of an FBI investigation into illegal sports betting and mafia-linked poker games, multiple NBA members and others have been arrested, including Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier on Thursday, along with over 30 others in New York. The cases involve rigging sports bets and poker games, which are connected to Mafia families, with allegedly millions in fraudulent gains.
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, "The fraud is mind boggling. We're talking about tens of millions of dollars in fraud and theft and robbery across a multi-year investigation. This is the insider-trading saga for the NBA."
Chauncey is accused of participating in fixing high-stakes card games across multiple cities, while the Trail Blazers player faces charges related to manipulating sports bets through insider information about the players.
Along with that, the poker schemes are run by New York crime families, with proceeds shared among the Gambino, Genovese, and Bonanno crime families.
“We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and maintaining the integrity of our game is our top priority.”
The NBA league stated as they said they will continue to cooperate with authorities.
