Prominent American journalist and news anchor Sheinelle Jones is about to come back to Today, her popular morning show, on September 5, 2025. The 47-year-old NBC correspondent will be returning to the morning show almost four months after her husband, Uche Ojeh, died due to an uncommon brain cancer.
Broadcast journalist and former lawyer Savannah Guthrie, who is Sheinelle Jones' co-anchor on the Today show, broke the news of her return on September 2, 2025. Guthrie also mentioned an interview with Jones, which is set to be released on September 5.
Sheinelle Jones, who has been hosting the Today show for over ten years now, became a part of the morning program's weekend edition in 2014. She became one of the hosts of Today's third hour in 2019. Jones has worked with NBC's top talents, such as Melvin Craig, Dylan Dreyer, and several others.
Sheinelle Jones couldn't host the Today show, as she was with her husband, Uche Ojeh, who was suffering from glioblastoma, a rare type of brain cancer. After battling with such a serious disease, Ojeh died in May 2025. He was 45 at the time.
Jones shared three kids with her late husband: a daughter, Clara Josephine, and two sons, Kayin and Uche. While Sheinelle Jones was absent from the Today show for quite some time, it was Melvin Craig who temporarily replaced her on the show, as he co-hosted with Savannah Guthrie. Craig joined earlier this year as Guthrie's co-host.
Savannah Guthrie shared how difficult it has been for Sheinelle Jones and her family after her husband's death

On September 2, 2025, Savannah Guthrie shared how difficult things have been for Jones and her kids since Ojeh's death. Guthrie also shared that she had a personal conversation with her about how Jones has been dealing with things since Ojeh passed away. Guthrie said:
"She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband Uche, and we recently sat down together, we shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months."
Guthrie further added:
"She calls this experience a beautiful nightmare, and she has thoughts on grief that are so touching, she’s got a special message of hope to for anybody facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you, and we cannot wait to welcome Sheinelle back home, right where she belongs."
