Netflix drops first teaser for People We Meet on Vacation starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth

Netflix just dropped the first teaser for their next book-to-screen adaptation People We Meet on Vacation, and it's a heartfelt, meet-cute moment and a sneak peek into what fans can expect from the upcoming film. Released on 30 September, the trailer introduces us to Poppy, played by Emile Bader and Alex, played by Tom Blyth, two best friends whose decade-long friendship is about to get more complicated.

The teaser starts off with Poppy at the airport, singing along to Robyn's Hang with Me as her luggage arrives first, surprisingly. She's vibing, singing her heart out and just as she turns back, she sees Alex. Caught off guard, Poppy says,

"Hi Alex, I was not expecting to see you. My bag came out first and that never happens,"

The adorable reunion is full of palpable chemistry as it sets the stage for what promises to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Moving on, the trailer shows snippets of them on their vacation, as Poppy refers to Alex and her relationship as "platonic travel companions."

According to Netflix, People We Meet on Vacation follows free-spirited Poppy and by-the-book Alex, who have somehow managed to stay inseparable best friends for ten years despite living in different cities. Every summer, no matter what life throws their way, they reunite for a vacation that keeps their bond alive. But this tradition takes an unexpected turn when the pair begins to realize that their connection has always been more than just friendship, setting the stage for a romance that feels both inevitable and long overdue.

People We Meet on Vacation is being directed by Brett Haley, who has previously worked on All The Bright Places, another book adaptation that opened to mostly positive reviews. The film is based on Emily Henry's 2021 novel that was based on the evolution of Poppy and Alex's relationship during their annual summer vacations. From what we can see in the trailer, the film will stay close to the book's lane as the first look teases a film that's chaotic, adventurous and heartfelt.

Talking about the film, Emily Henry tells Netlix,

“This is a movie that doesn’t just tell a love story. It makes you feel like you’ve gone on vacation right alongside Poppy and Alex. I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters. I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.”

Joining Emily Bader and Tom Blyth in the film is a stunning ensemble that consists of Jameela Jamil, Lukas Gage, Alan Ruck, Molly Shannon, Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, Alice Lee and Tommy Do.

People We Meet on Vacation is being produced by Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Isaac Klausner as the film benefits from a Sony Pictures first-look deal with Netflix. Principal photography for the film started in September of 2024, as the film sets out to explore some diverse locations from New Orleans to Barcelona.
