Netflix has released a close up look of Jacob Elordi as the Creature in Frankenstein, a role that deviated from the usual characters in his career, highlighting the actor's range as he fits into the shoes of a classic villain. In the film, the Creature serves as the secondary lead, a creation of Oscar Isaac's Victor Frankenstein who becomes revengeful after Victor denies to let him have a partner. The image shared by Netflix shows the Creature with all his scars, highlighting his monstrous appearance.

Elordi has previously opened up on his role in the film, talking about the difficult and physically challenging transformation he went through to get into the character. He would spend ten hours getting his makeup done, before shooting his scenes. Speaking to Variety, the actor stated,

“There’s so many different layers to the costume. When he’s born, he’s wearing nearly nothing. His chest is open and his head is high. Then, as he starts to experience pain, as we do as a teenager, he starts to hunch his shoulders. And as an adult, he closes off.”

In another interview with The Los Angeles Times, Elordi remembered how one of the early reviews for a film criticized his performance and namedropped Frankenstein's Creature as being the only role he could play. The actor quoted,

"Someone had written after my first film, ‘The only thing this plank of wood could play is Frankenstein’s Creature. Get him off my screen!' "

Needless to say, Jacob Elordi has been getting immense praise for his portrayal, with Guillermo del Toro also speaking highly of his hardwork in Frankenstein. The film also stars Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza, the female lead who is torn between her affection for the Creature and her loyalty towards Victor.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein finally breathes life into a dream nearly two decades in the making. The gothic science fiction epic reimagines Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic through del Toro’s signature lens, lush, tragic, and achingly human. The film stars Oscar Isaac as the brilliant yet self-obsessed scientist Victor Frankenstein, whose quest for creation spirals into ruin after he brings to life a tormented creature, played by Jacob Elordi.

The project’s long journey began in 2007 when del Toro declared Frankenstein his “dream project.” Over the years, he sketched designs, drafted notes, and even tested prosthetics with frequent collaborator Doug Jones, but Universal’s shifting Dark Universe plans kept it shelved. By 2023, following his Oscar-winning Pinocchio, Netflix resurrected the idea, giving del Toro full creative control. Originally set to star Andrew Garfield, the creature role eventually went to Elordi after scheduling conflicts. Del Toro redesigned the monster’s look in just nine weeks, adapting his earlier concepts for Elordi’s imposing frame.

Frankenstein premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2025, to widespread acclaim. The film is currently available to stream on Netflix.
