Universal Pictures has just dropped a brand new trailer for Wicked: For Good, and it's only adding to the excitement for fans of the sequel. In the new teaser, we get quick cuts of Elphaba and Glinda finding their way back to each other, a hint of a wedding, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it peek at a certain Kansas girl with a very famous pet. The spot even lands a mission-statement line, “We can’t let good be just a word,” which sets the tone for a bigger, messier, more emotional finale.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande lead the returning cast, with Jonathan Bailey and Jeff Goldblum back in the mix. Chu is promising a darker follow-up that tracks the consequences of defying gravity, plus new music alongside the Broadway staples. Consider Wicked: For Good to be the part where friendships get tested, politics get thorny, and Oz stops pretending everything is fine.

More details on Wicked: For Good

After the massive success of Wicked, Jon M. Chu is bringing our favorite witches back for a sequel, and this time, we will witness an even more iconic friendship between the two witches. The first film explored the unlikely friendship between Glinda and Elphaba, and the second film is set to explore a complex relationship between the two, and how Elphaba deals with the world and how it perceives her.

Development of a Wicked film stretched over a decade, with Universal and producer Marc Platt determined to translate the stage phenomenon without compromising its scale. In 2022, Chu announced the story would be split into two films, explaining that cramming it into one would “do real damage.”

His statement on social media read,

"As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of 'Wicked' into a single film without doing some real damage to it ... As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one 'Wicked' movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of 'Wicked' as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters."

The cast that brought the first act to life is back for Wicked: For Good, Cynthia Erivo as the misunderstood green-skinned Elphaba, Ariana Grande as the sparkling Glinda, Jonathan Bailey’s Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum’s enigmatic Wizard, and Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible, alongside Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James. Even Kerry Ellis, a legendary Elphaba on stage, will appear in a secret cameo.

Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
