Noah Oppenheim is reuniting Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves after almost two decades, and we finally have a new update on their much-awaited collaboration. The thriller film, details of which are under wraps for now, is currently being written by Oppenheim, who described the stars as incredible to work with.
Speaking about his progress on the project on a recent episode of the podcast The Discourse, Oppenheim said,
“I’m deep in it, writing as we speak. I think the genre is thriller, but it puts the two of them together in a way that captures the unique and exceptional chemistry that people love when they share the screen. They’re incredible to work with and very hands-on. It’s been great.”
The director is well known for his work on Jackie, Zero Day, The Maze Runner and The Divergent Series: Allegiant. His recent stint was with Netflix for A House of Dynamite.
More details about Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves' past collaboration
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have collaborated in the past on The Lake House, a fantasy romance film that reimagines the South Korean film Il Mare. Directed by Alejandro Agresti and written by David Auburn, the story drifts between two timelines, 2004 and 2006, where love is tested by time itself.
Reeves plays Alex Wyler, a gifted but emotionally distant architect haunted by his strained relationship with his father, Simon Wyler, played by Christopher Plummer, a celebrated yet egocentric architect who originally designed the glass lake house. Seeking solitude, Alex moves into the house, unaware that two years in the future, it will be home to Kate Forster, played by Sandra Bullock, a compassionate physician beginning a new chapter in Chicago.
They also worked together on 1994's Speed, which was inspired by both Runaway Train and the 1975 Japanese film The Bullet Train. Screenwriter Graham Yost got the idea from his father, Elwy Yost, who described the Jon Voight film as a runaway train scenario, though Elwy mistakenly thought it involved a bomb. Graham reimagined the concept: a bus with a bomb on board, forced to maintain at least 20 mph to prevent detonation, later adjusted to 50 mph thanks to a friend’s suggestion.
Directed by Jan de Bont, Speed had Keanu Reeves starring as LAPD officer Jack Traven, with Sandra Bullock as Annie Porter and Dennis Hopper as the chilling villain Howard Payne. Joe Morton played Lieutenant Herb ‘Mac’ McMahon, while Jeff Daniels appeared as Detective Harry Temple.
In 2021, Reeves expressed his desire to work with Bullock again, as he told Vanity Fair,
“I sure hope so. She’s such a wonderful artist and person. And, you know, I think we have good chemistry. And it would be really exciting and interesting to get the chance to perform with her again.”
Now lucky for fans, the reunion is happening soon and although we don't have many details now, seeing both their performances in thrillers and high-octane action films, we are in for a thrilling ride with the power couple reuniting!
