Connor McDavid, who plays for the Edmonton Oilers was recently rumored to have donated a whopping $12 million to a homeless shelter, but those rumors have now proven to be false. According to reports, the Art Ross Trophy winner was falsely reported to have donated the amount to help establish homeless shelters in Edmonton, Canada.

Connor McDavid's eight year deal with the Edmonton Oilers is set to end next year, after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. According to Pro Football Negotiations, McDavid, who has a $100 million contract, has not yet requested for a possible extension of his contract. In an interview with Bleacher Report, sports reporter Frank Seravalli pointed out that it is unlikely that McDavid will want to transfer elsewhere, and that an extension of his contract is something that can be expected in the near future. He said:

"I’d expect in relatively short order here, whether it’s in the next week or two, that that process will begin to ramp up. The minute that Connor McDavid picks his head up off the pillow and decides that he would like to have a contract extension done, that’s the day that it’ll happen."

"Connor’s the best player in the League, the most important player in the League, he’s our captain, he’s our leader and certainly he’s a No. 1 priority. I think listening to Connor’s take on things, he’s earned the right for us to be respectful of his time.”

He further added:

"Certainly we’re eager to meet with him whenever he wants, but also understanding that he just went through a tough ending to the season. Timing-wise, Connor is going to drive that process, but there’s no question he’s a pivotal player on our team and not just what he does on the ice, but his leadership."

According to the official NHL website, if Connor McDavid does not extend his contract, he is set to become a free agent on July 1, 2026.
