"No, but I love that dress of hers" - Miley Cyrus reacts to rumored Jennifer Lawrence diss

Miley Cyrus is now clearing up the rumors that she allegedly dissed Jennifer Lawrence’s 2012 golden dress, which the American Hustle actress wore to the premiere of her movie The Hunger Games. She said:

"No, but I love that dress of hers."

Cyrus, who is currently gearing up for the release of her ninth studio album Something Beautiful, performed at an exclusive event at the Chateau Marmont on May 27. There, she played some tracks from her much-anticipated album.

According to People magazine, Miley Cyrus was approached by a fan as she walked up to the studio during her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In a video uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) by @MileyEdition, the fan is seen asking if the dress she wore in the music video for her Grammy-winning song Flowers was inspired by Jennifer Lawrence.

The fan asked:

"Was your flowers dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?"

The Midnight Sky singer responded by saying:

"No, but I love that dress of hers."

The story goes back to 2012, when Jennifer Lawrence wore a golden Prabal Gurung dress to the red carpet premiere of her movie The Hunger Games, along with her co-star Liam Hemsworth. At that time, according to People magazine, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus were in a relationship. But according to the outlet, rumors floated around that the couple had allegedly broken up because Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence were romantically linked.

Almost a decade later, in her 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Jennifer Lawrence was also asked if she thought that the new music video released by Cyrus referenced the past. The Winter’s Bone actress said:

"Not true. I would love to. It’s not true. Total rumor. I mean, we all know that me and Liam, like, kissed one time. But it was years after they broke up. So I just assume that was, like, a coincidence.”

In her hit single Flowers, Miley Cyrus is seen wearing a golden Saint Laurent dress with similar ab cutouts to the one Jennifer Lawrence once wore. This prompted fans to speculate whether it was an alleged diss aimed at the actress.

According to People magazine, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth got back together in 2016 and married in 2018. But in 2019, the couple announced their separation and later divorced in 2020.
