Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey hasn’t even dropped a trailer yet, but the internet is already spiraling, all thanks to a single poster. The poster, mysterious and minimal, doesn’t reveal much, but in true Nolan fashion, that’s exactly the point. After the director's success with Oppenheimer, The Odyssey is his much-awaited ensemble film, described as a "mythic action epic" that brings Homer's epic to life.

The poster has not yet been officially released, but has been spotted by several fans across AMC theaters as a promotion. Although it doesn't give anything away, it features Nolan's signature typography spelling out the title and the release date, along with the top view of what looks like a statue surrounded by fire sparks.

Fans on Reddit and X are going gaga over the poster, discussing themes, dissecting plotlines, and being as excited as ever. Here's what they're saying and what Odyssey is about.

Fans reacting to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

The user who spotted the poster in the theater described it on Reddit, saying,

"The film’s poster was placed on display at AMC Theatres and features a sculpted stone head, inspired by classical Greek art, symbolizing ancient mythology or Gods. It also highlights that the film was “Shot entirely with IMAX film cameras.”

One user @relientkenny wrote:

"I don’t want a single trailer for this movie. The release date is enough. im gonna be there regardless"

Another user on X wrote,

"Absolutely f**king gorgeous. This is how you do a teaser poster. The tag line. The floating embers. The statue. It’s so simple & minimalist & yet instantly iconic. We are going to get another generational film from Christopher Nolan."

However, some also raised criticism over the poster and the film, particularly its roots in realism, as The Odyssey remains a beloved poem. One user voiced their concern and wrote,

"I’m slightly dreading this movie. The costumes look like absolute sh*te… seriously, almost AI-generated levels of bad. And costumes are half the damn point in a historical epic. If a filmmaker can’t be bothered to get that right, it’s a bit of a red flag for me. This poster doesn‘t fill me with confidence that we will get a respectful and authentic version of the Odyssey either. But it‘s Nolan. People will go see this no matter what"

More details on The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is a myth reborn through a lens the size of a galaxy. For his most audacious project yet, Nolan dives headfirst into Greek mythology, turning Homer’s epic into a cinematic odyssey of jaw-dropping proportions. With a $250 million budget and shot entirely on IMAX film, a world first, the film promises a sensory overload of gods, monsters, and storm-lashed seas, all rendered with Nolan’s signature precision.

Matt Damon leads the star-stacked cast as Odysseus, joined by Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and others. The film has been shot across ancient landscapes in Greece, Sicily, and Scotland. Behind the scenes, he’s teamed up with longtime collaborators Hoyte van Hoytema and Ludwig Göransson.
