Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen's son Mingus Reedus pleads not guilty to assault charges

Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s son Mingus Reedus has been arrested and charged with assault. According to reports by USA Today substantiated by The New York City Police Department, the 25 year old Reedus was taken into custody on August 23 after police responded to an assault in progress.

Once they arrived on the scene, NYPD officers identified the victim, a 33-year-old woman with "minor injuries" to her neck and leg. Then, she was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue by EMS and was reportedly stable. In the aftermath, Mingus Reedus pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, harassment, and criminal obstruction of breathing.

Reedus’ attorney gave an official statement to USA Today regarding the incident and the optics of the charges levied against her client. She stated,

"Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty. As the facts emerge, his innocence will become clear."

She established that the charges were only misdemeanors and,

"Equally important, the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume."

According to People Magazine, his next court date is set for Tuesday, August 26.

Mingus Reedus' history, past altercations, and more

Unfortunately for Mingus Reedus, there seems to be a history of similar behavior in his past, pointing to a disturbing trend in his actions. According to People Magazine in 2021, Mingus was accused of assaulting a New York City woman in September and wound up ultimately pleading guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct, as confirmed by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Isabelle Kirshner, Mingus’ attorney at the time, spoke to People Magazine and reiterated to the publication that the charges against Reedus were

“Baseless and will be met with a rigorous defense. He was the victim is this incident."

The end result of the negotiations was the plea deal Mingus Reedus later accepted.

Mingus is the son of actor Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and supermodel and ex-Victoria's Secret Angel Helena Christensen, who is also the co-founder and original creative director for Nylon Magazine. Though the pair never married, they were together for 5 years, and Mingus was born in 1999.

In terms of his professional profile, Mingus Reedus has been working as a model since the age of 16, when he was scouted for his looks at a music festival as per USA Today reports. He has worked with top fashion brands, including Calvin Klein, for whom he walked the runway during New York Fashion Week in 2017.
