One Battle After Another has a stunning cast of some of the biggest names in Hollywood. From the brilliance of Leonardo DiCaprio to Sean Penn to Benicio del Toro and Teyana Taylor, the action thriller boasts of a talented crew that helped make Paul Thomas Andreson's revolutionary vision come to life.

A driving force of the film's narrative is Teyana Taylor, who has a smaller role in One Battle After Another, but her impact is deeper than most characters. As she sat down for her own GQ interview, talking about her place in Hollywood, Anderson made sure to share a few words of praise for the actress.

Speaking to the outlet, Anderson marvels at her prowess as an actress and says,

“She’s instinctual and she’s wild. I like both of these traits. She’s incredibly athletic and in control of her body, which is also very useful to an actress. She’s a filmmaker, not just an actress. She really understands a set and the camera and the experience and movement of a crew. I suppose her face is one of the most beautiful and unique I’ve ever seen in my life. Photographing her face is pure joy. She is mysterious, sexy, mischievous, and quite sweet. Nice combo.”

In One Battle After Another she plays Perfidia Beverly Hills, a member of a revolutionary gang who disappears after betraying her team and leaving her partner with a child. The film has been getting immense praise from the audience, particularly because of the star studded cast, and Taylor is definitely one of the best things about the premise.

Loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon's Vineland, One Battle After Another is a feverish epic about revolution, betrayal and survival across generations. At it's heart is Leonardo DiCaprio as Pat Calhoun, who later takes on the identity of Bob Ferguson to protect himself. His past as a bomb-making revolutionary collides with his role as an overprotective father. Opposite him is Sean Penn as Steven Lockjaw, a racist military officer who's obsession with Teyana Taylor's Perfidia Beverky Hills warps into a decades-long hunt for their daughter Willa.

Production on this $175 million epic spanned California, Texas, and the U.S.-Mexico border, shot in 35mm VistaVision by Michael Bauman, Anderson’s collaborator on Licorice Pizza. The scale shows, rooftop escapes, convent raids, desert shootouts, but Jonny Greenwood’s score roots the chaos in melancholy, the pair’s sixth and final collaboration with producer Adam Somner, to whom the film is dedicated.

Premiering September 8, 2025, in Los Angeles before a global rollout, the Warner Bros. release earned near-universal acclaim. Rotten Tomatoes pegs it at 96%, Metacritic at 95, and audiences have awarded it an “A” CinemaScore. Critics hail it as Anderson’s most entertaining yet thematically rich work: a screwball odyssey of political paranoia and messy, unbreakable family ties.
