Jessica Simpson is best known to the world for her tremendous singing ability as well as her reality tv show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which featured an in depth look at her personal life with former husband Nick Lachey. Since then, Simpson has deemed it fitting to live more privately.
Recently, Simpson made her first live tv appearance in 15 years, performing as part of the American Idol season finale which aired on May 18. In gearing up for the show, Simpson shared her emotions and process with a representative from Extra,
“Oh, my God, I was dying. I can't even tell you how long it's been since I've been that nervous. Like, I had to put hairspray on my feet to stand still, like, not that it actually keeps me put, but, like, my feet were sweating. I'm like, my feet don't sweat.”

When speaking to Extra, Simpson also made sure to explain her biggest fear: breaking down into tears.
“I just kept telling myself, ‘Do not cry. Do not cry. I know this is a big moment … do not cry.’ And then I see my dad, like, up in the corner, and I'm like, ‘Ah, I'm going to cry. I'm going to cry. Do not cry. Just sing your songs. Just sing your songs.’ "
Clearly, this is a moment that has been building for Jessica and it was a big deal that she was able to gather the strength to power through and deliver a memorable performance. She was joined onstage by contestant Josh King, and the duo crafted a rendition of her 2005 hit, These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ a remake she recorded for the Dukes of Hazzard motion picture soundtrack.
Up next for Simpson is the release of some new music projects she’s been diligently putting together. Her EP Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1, released on March 25, with follow-up, Pt. 2, scheduled for a summer release.
“It is so much a part of my soul, and so to sing a song off of that I felt naked, to be honest, like, it was very bare and raw and very vulnerable.”
This series of EPs seems to be a good refection of where Simpson is at in her life at the moment, a truly liberating feeling for the artist. When asked about her children’s reaction to her new style, Jessica Simpson responded,
“I haven't gotten to talk to them yet, but I'm so excited to talk to them because they've never seen me sing live like that.”
On top of her renewed love for making music, Jessica Simpson is also coming back to the small screen. She recently even did an episode of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming show,
“I did an episode of All's Fair, and what a show! I mean, great cast. It is so fun. I didn't want it to end.”
The show centres on a group of female divorce attorneys who decide to open their own firm.
