Variety has reported that Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another has earned $3.1 million so far in Thursday previews. It's expected to gross anywhere between $20 million-$25 million in its first weekend. The film has a production budget of $130 million, which means it will have to do well beyond the first weekend to recover the cost. There Will Be Blood, which is Anderson's highest-grossing film, had a lifetime collection of $76.4 million.

One Battle After Another is loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland. It is produced by Anderson, Sara Murphy and Adam Somner. Its cast members include,

  • Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson/Pat Calhoun aka Ghetto
  • Benicio del Toro as Sergio St. Carlos
  • Regina Hall as Deandra
  • Teyana Taylor as Perfidia Beverly Hills
  • Sean Penn as Col. Steven J. Lockjaw
  • Chase Infiniti as Willa Ferguson/Charlene Calhoun
  • Alana Haim as Mae West
  • Wood Harris as Laredo
  • John Hoogenakker as Tim Smith
  • Shayna McHayle as Junglepussy
  • Paul Grimstad as Howard Sommerville

  • Jim Downey as Sandy Irvine
  • Tony Goldwyn as Virgil Throckmorton
  • Starletta DuPois as Grandma Jennie
  • D. W. Moffett as Bill Desmond
  • Kevin Tighe as Roy More

In a Dazed interview, Anderson spoke about how he felt shooting the film, saying,

“It felt no different than my other films. Magnolia, we shot for 100 days, and this was about the same, but with a break in the middle. When I look around, I’m with the 15 familiar faces I’ve always worked with. Whether you’re doing a car chase in the desert, or a scene of a baby being born in a room in Inglewood, it’s still the same 15 of us.”

One Battle After Another is playing in the theatre.
