Guillermo del Toro announces his next film, Fury, with Oscar Isaac
Guillermo del Toro is attending the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for the North American premiere of his film Frankenstein. At the event, the director revealed that he is writing a new film called Fury, where he will reunite with Oscar Isaac. He described it as a violent story on the lines of 1981's My Dinner with Andre, but with more killings. The director stated,
"I’m writing a project to do with Oscar. I’m writing it right now, and it’s called Fury, and essentially it’s going back to [the] sort of thriller aspects of Nightmare Alley — very cruel, very violent. Like My Dinner with Andre but [with] killing people after each course.”
He added,
“Because I’m very interested in the violence we do to each other, and we do it with our minds, we do it with our souls and we do it physically. And I think it’s new questions [I’m having]; I’m 60 now, so I’ve gone from asking where I’m going and [being a] father and son to [experiencing] regret. I’m in the regret decade, so expect a lot of regret.”
Del Toro's forthcoming film Frankenstein is adapted from the namesake 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. He has written the screenplay and is also the co-producer, along with Scott Stuber and J. Miles Dale. Its official synopsis, as per Letterboxd, reads,
Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
The film features Isaac portraying the scientist Victor Frankenstein. After its debut at the Venice Film Festival last month and the theatrical run from October 17, the film will drop on Netflix on November 7, 2025. Besides Fury, del Toro also revealed that he will be making a stop-motion film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel The Buried Giant.
