According to latest reports from multiple sources, Academy Award-winning actor and director Robert Redford breathed his last today at the age of 89. Robert Redford is known for his irreplaceable contribution to a number of classics, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All The President's Men, and The Twilight Zone.
The late star passed away in his Utah home this morning, while the cause of death is yet to be revealed, per New York Times. According to Variety, the official confirmation of the visionary filmmaker's death came from Cindi Berger on behalf of the publicity firm, Rogers & Cowan PMK's.
Robert Redford, known from All President's Men, passes away at 89
The late Robert Redford's directorial debut was the iconic 1980 drama film Ordinary People, which is known to have bagged Academy Awards in four different categories - one of them being Best Director. Earlier in the 60s, Redford also gained quite some Broadway recognition owing to his contribution to the Neil Simon stage play Barefoot in the Park.
He also took up the lead role in the 1967 big-screen adaptation of Barefoot in the Park, which became a major breakthrough in his acting career. The last time he graced the big screens was in 2019 in the MCU movie Avengers: Endgame, where the late star portrayed Alexander Goodwin Pearce.
According to Variety, Cindi Berger from Rogers & Cowan PMK gave an official statement about Robert Redford's passing where she mentioned:
"Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy."

Robert Redford is also known to have bagged an Academy Award nomination for his visionary work in the 1973 crime caper film The Sting. Back in 2019, per Collider, Robert Redford reportedly opened up about one of his greatest contributions to the film industry, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
To quote his words:
"I was being put up for Butch Cassidy because I’d done the comedy. But that part didn't interest me. What interested me was the Sundance Kid because I could relate to that based on my own experience and particularly my own childhood and feeling like an outlaw most of my life."
Besides serving one hit after the other to the film industry, the late star also played a key role in founding the Sundance Resort and Film Institute. Redford was furthermore associated as an executive producer with the 2022 pyschological thriller series Dark Winds, where he also had an iconic cameo. Some of his other major works include:
