Idris Elba will be raising awareness in Our Knife Crime Crisis, a documentary by the BBC that will air on BBC One on January 29, 2025. While he will be speaking to King Charles and Sir Keir Starmer regarding the rising issue, he has interviewed the general public who is most affected by it.

The actor is vocal about knife crime and began a campaign dubbed Don’t Stop Your Future last year. His decision comes with a growing concern among the parents regarding the crimes as they send their children to school and can't help but think if that's the last time they see them.

Our Knife Crime Crisis synopsis explains,

The film features Pooja Kanda, whose son Ronan was murdered in a case of mistaken identity. She highlights systemic failures and risks when children are excluded from school. Idris also visits The Royal London Hospital, where a pioneering programme sees youth workers embedded directly in the casualty department. In these pivotal moments, they step in to support young victims of knife crime, guiding them away from violence.

We can see Pooja Kanda say in Our Knife Crime Crisis trailer that,

"You don't have to carry the knife to be the victim of knife crime."

Pooja was attending a meditation class when she got to know that an incident like that had happened in the region. She reached home unbeknownst that the victim was her own son. It was her husband who got the news that an Asian-Indian boy was stabbed.

Recently, the BBC reported that a 25-year-old man stabbed a 48-year-old man in Buckinghamshire. They were reportedly friends, but this friendship was deteriorating. Detective Inspector Alice Broad told the media that the man died in what should have been the safest place for him - home.

PA news agency sheds light on these crimes, where England and Wales recorded 50,973 cases in the 12 months to June 2024. The data includes 42 forces, where the Avon & Somerset region saw a 31.8% uptick in crime. The special police force, British Transport Police, was behind it with 30.6%.

Eden Buron, a mother living in Oxford, lost his son Aaron Buron to knife wounds in 2012. She believes that education can help tackle this problem.
