During an interview with Vogue Scandinavia last month, Pamela Anderson expressed her desire to change her last name to Hyytiäinen. The 58-year-old actress said that Hyytiäinen is a Finnish surname and belonged to her grandfather. While speaking to Vogue Scandinavia, she said:"Sometimes I don't want to be Pamela Anderson. I want to be Pamela Hyytiäinen... I would like to change my name, but they won't let me."However, after speaking with Entertainment Tonight right before the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, she revealed that she will not be Pamela Hyytiäinen and will be sticking to her North American-sounding last name.In her words:"That is my grandfather's Finnish name. I felt like it was a little exotic, I liked it. But... sticking with Anderson. For now, it's Anderson."In another interview with PEOPLE back in December, she spoke about her outlook regarding the start of a new phase in her life. She said:"I'm making the choices in my career and the way I look... I'm in control."Pamela Anderson opens up about her grandfatherAfter telling Vogue Scandinavia that she wanted to change her last name from Anderson to Hyytiäinen, she got a little more candid about her Finnish grandfather. She also revealed that before they moved to Canada, Hyytiäinen had been their family name. While talking about her grandfather, Herman, she revealed that he taught her how to speak Finnish as she was growing up. She added that it was a "magical language" for her, but she lost touch with the language after her grandfather passed away when she was 11 years old.In her words:"... a magical language that no one else could understand... [The language] kind of left with him."In an older interview with Esquire, Pamela Anderson described her grandfather as a "healer from Finland." She also added:"All of his brothers changed their names, too, so I have a feeling that maybe something bad happened in Finland."The last time she visited the country was in 2007. She added:"I just wanted to go, to feel that connection. I'd love to go back to Finland, maybe with my sons... To find out more about myself, to explore that side of me. Maybe we will change my name and go back, to answer to my roots... It feels distant, but it's a part of me. I've always been proud to tell people I’m Finnish, even before I knew what that really meant."In an old X (formerly Twitter) post, she wrote:"My real last name is Hyytiänen - My father's Grandfather came from Finland. He changed our name to Anderson when he arrived in Canada. My mother's Grandmother came from Russia ... I am a citizen of the world though I was born in Canada 🇨🇦"Pamela Anderson once wanted to change her last name to her grandfather's Finnish name, Hyytiäinen. However, she has now decided to keep her North American-sounding last name, Anderson. Still, she remains proud of her roots and wishes to go visit the country one more time, hopefully with her two sons. Also read: How many children does Pamela Anderson have?
