Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has just undergone a crucial change in its cast as Warfare star Cosmo Jarvis has exited the project and is being replaced by Logan Marshall-Green. The exit was due to scheduling conflicts and the actors were swapped just before the role was filmed. It's not known yet who Jarvis was supposed to play as the role has been kept under wraps.
Green is known for his work on television series like 24, The O.C., Traveler, Dark Blue, and Quarry, and films like Devil, Prometheus, The Invitation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Upgrade, and When They See Us. The actor was last seen in Jaume Collet Serra's Carry On and continues to be one of the main actors in Michael Patrick King's And Just Like That...
More details on Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan is gearing up for his next ambitious leap: adapting Homer’s The Odyssey for the big screen. Slated for release on July 17, 2026, the project follows the massive success of Oppenheimer 2023, where Nolan returns to his epic cinematic phase. The film is based on Homer's eponymous epic poem which is a beloved piece of Greek literature and has seen multiple adaptations so far.
The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus’s perilous 10‑year return to Ithaca after the Trojan War, facing gods, monsters, and supernatural challenges along the way. It’s Nolan’s first fully IMAX-shot blockbuster reportedly the most expensive film of his career at around $250 million.
The cast is a star-studded blend of Nolan veterans and exciting newcomers. Matt Damon takes the lead as Odysseus, supported by Tom Holland who will play his son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway who is rumored to play Damon's wife Penelope, Zendaya is reported to play Athena and Robert Pattinson will likely join as Poseidon. They are joined by Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, and others.
The official X account for the film describes it as
[A] mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
Production has already begun, with principal photography launched in early 2025 across global locations: Morocco, Sicily’s Favignana, Scotland, Greece, the UK. Nolan continues his trusted collaboration with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, and music is expected from Ludwig Göransson.
Early teasers that were leaked in theaters ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth hint at sweeping ocean vistas, intense mythical confrontations, and a gritty, grounded aesthetic far from polished fantasy. The visuals have already raised expectations and excitement among fans who are thrilled at the star-studded ensemble and Nolan's dedication to the project.
