The film earned $15.6 million on its opening day.

Predator: Badlands opening day collection explored

Predator: Badlands has opened with $15.6 million. This includes collection from all the preview screenings from 3,725 screens. Earlier, the film was expected to gross around $25-$30 million on its first Friday. Given that it's rated PG-13, the film is open to a wider range of audiences. Its production budget is around $105 million, excluding marketing expenses. So far, the film's reviews have been mostly positive, which might help with the numbers.

The screenplay is written by Patrick Aison, who also sat down with director Dan Trachtenberg to write the story. It's produced by Trachtenberg, John Davis, Brent O'Connor, Marc Toberoff, and Ben Rosenblatt. Trachtenberg has also edited the film with Stefan Grube. Its cast members include,

  • Elle Fanning as Thia/Tessa
  • Cameron Brown as Drone Synthetic
  • Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek
  • Rohinal Nayaran as Bud
  • Reuben De Jong as Njohrr / Apex Predator / Father
  • Mike Homik as Kwei
  • Stefan Grube as Kwei's voice
  • Alison Wright as MU/TH/UR's voice

Trachtenberg has previously helmed two films in the franchise, Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers, which were released digitally. In an IGN interview, he spoke about how Badlands is different from anything we've seen in the franchise.

"Because it's a movie that does not exist. You've now got five new movies... Killer of Killers is like four movies in one. And then with Prey as well, it really felt like, man, I don't think people really need another version of just that movie, that story, that structure as it was. It really felt like, boy, it'd be nice to have something refreshing and new in the franchise, but then also in science fiction movies in general."

Predator: Badlands is playing in the theatres.
