Production of Ang Lee's Old Gold Mountain pushed to Spring 2026

Deadline has recently reported that Ang Lee's upcoming directorial project, Old Gold Mountain, has been delayed in production until the spring of 2026. Lee is still finalizing some aspects of the film, which is cited as the main reason for the delay. Initial work has started in the northern part of California.

The film is written by Chang-rae Lee and is an official adaptation of author C Pam Zhang's debut novel, How Much of These Hills Is Gold. It was her first novel and was longlisted for the Booker Prize that year. The novel eventually won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in the Adult Fiction category.

The story follows two immigrants, Sam and Lucy, who are orphans. They embark on a journey to bury their father and encounter various experiences along the way. Directed by Lee, the film is being produced by Ink Factory and Fifth Season. Details about the cast and crew remain undisclosed.

Besides Old Gold Mountain, Lee also announced in 2022 that he would be making a biopic about the late actor and martial artist Bruce Lee. His son, Mason Lee, will portray the Game of Death actor on screen. The film is being produced by Sony's 3000 Pictures and is written by Dan Futterman. His writing credits include Foxcatcher and Capote. The earlier drafts of the script were written by Wells Tower, Alex Law, Mabel Cheung, and Jean Castelli.

Lee's early films include Pushing Hands, The Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman, and Sense and Sensibility. He gained international recognition in the 2000s with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
