Glen Powell is opening up on working on The Running Man, calling it one of his most physically demanding roles yet. The action film, coming from Edgar Wright, sees Powell playing the role of Ben Richards, a desperate dad on the run who is running for his life. Powell trained like an athlete, ran routes over multiple locations, and insisted on doing many of his own stunts so the audience would know it was him sweating and taking the hits.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about working on The Running Man's stunts, the actor says,

"There were times where Edgar would be shooting something, and I'm getting rocked. Like, I'm getting thrown over, like off of roofs, and over walls, and taking real punches to the gut. I'm like, 'Edgar, that looks like you're shooting it like there's a double. If I'm gonna be taking a shot to the face, please, please let them know it's me, that I'm putting my body on the line to entertain them.'"

He then adds how bringing that authenticity to his work is important for him as an entertainer as he continues,

"That's the kind of entertainers I like, people that don't compromise on that, that they want to do it right. You leave with a couple bruises, you leave with some scars, but at the end of the day, that's what this job's about. You don't want to half-ass it."

Powell also credits mentors and brutal prep for keeping him in the fight. Tom Cruise offered practical advice on training and filming, and Powell trained intensively for the role. That mix of vulnerability and toughness is part of why this is Powell's most demanding role to date. And with everything we have seen of the film so far, it might just be one of his most iconic roles on screen.

He’s joined by an impressive ensemble: Josh Brolin as the ruthless producer Dan Killian, Colman Domingo as the show’s host Bobby Thompson, Lee Pace and Karl Glusman as Hunters, and Jayme Lawson as Richards’ wife, Sheila. Emilia Jones plays Amelia Williams, a civilian caught in the chaos, while Michael Cera appears as Elton Parrakis, a rebel ally.

The supporting cast includes William H. Macy, Daniel Ezra, Katy O’Brian, David Zayas, Simon Haines, Sean Hayes, Sandra Dickinson, George Carroll, Martin Herlihy, and Sophie Simnett. In a nostalgic nod, Schwarzenegger returns via a photographic cameo as the face on the film’s $100 bill.
