Randy Couture, who was previously reported to have been injured during a practice session at a race track on Tuesday, was later airlifted to a treatment center near Kansas, according to ESPN. Couture, who is 62 years old, has not yet been discharged from the burn center but is expected to make a recovery, according to TMZ Sports.
This is not Randy Couture's first accident. Back in 2020, he and his then-girlfriend suffered an accident while driving an ATV, after which he needed surgery.
The former two-time MMA champion was set to participate in his first competitive car racing event sometime later this year. Talking about his passion for sports car racing, Couture said:
"This is a new way to tickle that competitive spirit that I've had most of my life; a new place for me to get competitive and make a mark in racing. I'll bring all the things I developed as a wrestler and martial artist into this realm and see what we can do. I have no idea how it’s going to go, but I'm excited about the opportunities."

According to People Magazine, Randy Couture suffered a heart attack on October 23, 2019, while he was working out at the gym. According to MMA Fighting, the former army veteran was training when he experienced sharp pain in his chest.
He later completed his whole routine and drove back home, but soon realized the gravity of the situation when the pain did not subside. He then walked several blocks to reach the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A., where he was immediately admitted and had to undergo surgery.
After the operation, Randy Couture released a statement that read:
"Contrary to recent rumors, I have not kicked the bucket yet. I am alive and well. Special thanks to the amazing staff at Cedars Sinai Hospital. From the ER to cardiac ICU thanks for taking care of me. I’m one of those people that has crazy thick blood and nominally high bad cholesterol."
"Unfortunately, those two factors combined to create a nice clot including my diagonal artery. The (catheterization laboratory) at Cedars got right on it, cleared it out and placed a stent in its place."
According to People Magazine, less than a year later, in September 2020, Randy Couture and his then-girlfriend, Mindy Robinson, with whom he had been with for eleven years until their separation in February of this year, suffered injuries while driving an ATV.
In a statement released by a representative of Couture, said that the couple was driving close to their farm in Flagstaff, Arizona, when the accident took place. It read:
"As a result of the accident, later today, Randy will be having some orthopedic surgery. He (and Mindy) are expected to make a full recovery."
Apart from these cases, Randy Couture also suffered a broken nose, arm, and several other injuries that he has acquired from his decades-long sporting career, according to TIME Magazine.
In an interview, the "Expendables" actor said that despite the many injuries he had suffered, he did not feel any pain in his body, which he attributed to a healthy and balanced diet. He said:
"My body has held up remarkably well. I managed to get through nine weeks of camp with no nagging injuries. I try to eat a lot of raw foods and a lot of whole [grains]. I try to stay towards the alkaline type foods like raw almonds and greens and those sort of things as much as possible."
"Stay away from the dairies, the sugars and processed food, but keep it simple. I’m not one of those guys who likes to measure all that crap. I had way too much iron in my system."
No specific details have yet been released about the reason for Randy Couture's recent accident or whether he will be able to compete at the NHRA event later this year.
