Rapper and record producer Lil Jon, aka Jonathan H. Smith, recently participated in the Muscle Beach Championship, which was also his debut. According to People Magazine, he won third place in the ‘Men’s Physique Master’s Over 45’ category. Sharing the news on Instagram, he wrote:

“3RD PLACE! ALHAMDULLIAH. THANKS TO ALL THAT SUPPORTED ME ON THIS JOURNEY!! MY TRAINER @mrjaygalvin MYQUEEN @jamilasozahdah @youngla @nexgenfitnessla.”

Speaking to ABC7 on September 2, the rapper said it was a lot for him, as he had to work out regularly and be dedicated to his goal by staying focused. Lil Jon also said:

“I'm winning just by being here and, you know, changing my lifestyle mentally and physically. One of the things I hope is that I can be an inspiration to so many people that say, ‘I don't have time. I can't do it.’ If I can do it, then you can do it, too. No excuses.”

Per reports, his trainer, Jay Galvin, celebrated the rapper’s journey in the competition. Sharing an Instagram story, he wrote:

“My bro Lil Jon came straight off a plane to his first show ever and took third place.”

It seems like Lil Jon has been dedicated to his fitness journey. On August 21, he shared a video of himself walking on the treadmill. In the voiceover, he said people often asked him how he got fit. He explained that eating healthy was the first step, and the second was using the treadmill at a high incline and walking at a steady speed. He believed this routine helped burn fat quickly.

Lil Jon talks about his meditation journey and the time he had to get a colonoscopy

In 2024, Lil Jon and Kabir Sehgal released an album named Total Meditation. During a conversation with the hosts of CBS Mornings, Gayle King said the album was different from his previous works. The rapper responded:

“First of all, you can't scream all the time. I can't be holler.”

Lil Jon said that for every song he made, he had to figure out the right voice for it. He wanted his voice to sound calm, clear, and easy to understand, so he spent some time in the studio practicing until it felt right. King asked what had changed in his life, and he said:

“I started this meditation journey in a serious sense two years ago and I turned 50, I started to have like not health issues but like I had a recurring little thing on my side and it scared me I was like, ‘Oh is this my liver?’ You know, cause I was drinking a lot because I was in the club and instantly scared me made me go to the doctor. Doctor was like, ‘First of all it's time for a colonoscopy.’”

Lil Jon said he then got a colonoscopy, saying there was inflammation in his gut, and there was no problem with his liver. He said that he met Kabir Sehgal through his friend and lawyer, Doug Davis.

Around his birthday, he often had talks with Doug about life, and during one of those talks, he shared that he wanted to try meditation or sleep music. Around that time, he also started meditating every morning to help himself feel calm.
