Jake Paul’s proposed fight with Gervonta Davis faced regulatory resistance in Georgia, prompting organizers to move the bout to Miami. Most Valuable Promotions, co-founded by Paul, announced on Wednesday that the fight would be held on November 14 at the Kaseya Center, home of the NBA’s Miami Heat.

The event was initially scheduled for the same date at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. However, Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic Entertainment Commission, told USA TODAY Sports that he opposed the fight due to the significant weight gap between the boxers. Paul last weighed 199½ pounds, while Davis weighed 133¾.

The GAEC had planned to vote on a waiver request on Thursday, but MVP withdrew its application, ending the bid to stage the fight in Georgia. “We’re grateful to State Farm Arena and the GAEC for their support in this process,” Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, said in a statement. MVP confirmed press conferences for the fight would be held on September 22 in New York and on September 23 in Miami.

Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Gervonta Davis gained new attention after Davis dismissed concerns from boxing fans who believed he should have pursued a rematch with Lamont Roach. During a press conference in New York promoting the November 14 bout at Miami’s Kaseya Center, Davis clearly showed he was unmoved.

“Why should I care? Why should I care what they think, when y’all switch? Somebody can have a bad day and y’all switching on who y’all favorite fighter is or who this person is supposed to fight. Like y’all need to sit back and be fans and just enjoy the sport. Y’all even talk about people personal lives. Like when it come to that?” Davis shared.

Gervonta Davis, the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, has faced criticism since his majority draw with Roach at Barclays Center on March 1. Entering the ring as a heavy favorite, Davis struggled, and some observers argued he should have lost after a ninth-round knockdown went uncalled. Although Gervonta Davis initially exercised his right to a rematch, the plan was delayed twice before he agreed to face Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) in a high-profile fight that will stream globally on Netflix.

Jake Paul promises knockout in highly anticipated bout with Gervonta Davis:

Jake Paul entered the press conference confidently, eager to demonstrate his size advantage over Gervonta Davis in their upcoming fight.

“I think there's a lot of holes in his defence that a lot of people haven't exposed before. I haven't got a knockout in a long time, so I'm itching. I'm just excited to be able to deliver that for the fans and have another most viral knockout ever,” Paul told reporters.

Paul described the fight as a career milestone.

“He's the only other biggest name in America, in terms of boxing, so it only makes sense to fight. It's a challenge for me. It's a step up in my career. He's making me push myself to my limits,” he shared.

Davis echoed the excitement, highlighting the contrast in styles.

“Jake Paul coming in; he's much bigger, he's much stronger. I'm much quicker than him… but we all know that it's harder for taller fighters to fight a shorter one,” Davis explained.

Addressing critics, Paul remained undeterred.

“People always have something to say. It's old news. Keep talking. At the end of the day, you're here. So whatever anyone has to say, just keep on saying it,”

He said, adding that championship belts were secondary to the impact he had made in boxing.

According to DAZN, the rules for the upcoming fight between Paul and Gervonta Davis have been confirmed. Both fighters will wear 12-ounce gloves, and the fight has a weight limit of 195 pounds. Three professional judges will sit ringside to score each round and determine a clear winner.
