Netflix has confirmed that The Adventures of Cliff Booth, David Fincher’s long-rumored spinoff of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is officially eyeing a summer 2026 release window. The Brad Pitt-led project marks a rare crossover between two auteur powerhouses: Quentin Tarantino, who created the character, and Fincher, who will now take him for a spin.

As for why Tarantino isn't directing, the two-time Academy Award winner made it clear he didn’t want his final film to be a sequel, choosing instead to hand the project, and his screenplay, to Fincher, who directed Pitt in Se7en. Speaking about it during the The Church of Tarantino podcast, the director said,

"I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” he said on It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory. I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”

The film will follow Pitt’s Cliff Booth, the quiet, deadly stuntman who became one of Tarantino’s most beloved creations in the 2019 Oscar-winning hit. But this time, Tarantino is staying behind the curtain. According to reports, Pitt personally reached out to Tarantino for permission to show Fincher the script, and the filmmaker gave his full blessing.

Hollywood’s favorite stuntman is back, but this time he’s trading his fight scenes for fixing scandals. The Adventures Of Cliff Booth is an upcoming American comedy-drama directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino. A sequel to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the film catches up with Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth eight years later, now living in the shadows of 1970s Los Angeles as a studio “fixer” the guy who cleans up Hollywood’s dirtiest messes before the tabloids catch wind.

Initially titled The Continuing Adventures Of Cliff Booth, the film underwent a slight rebrand before production began in July 2025 in California. By August, it was officially called The Adventures Of Cliff Booth.

The casting process was just as stacked as its creative team, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian all joined the ensemble. Timothy Olyphant will also reprise his role as James Stacy, while Leonardo DiCaprio might appear in a small cameo as Rick Dalton.
