Known for his wit and friendliness both on and off camera, Hurst has had a successful run in Hollywood. Amidst his death, people are showing interest in his personal life, especially his financial status.

A look into Rick Hurst's success with The Dukes of Hazzard series and his other works

It was in 1979 that he landed his signature role: Cletus Hogg, a deputy on The Dukes of Hazzard. He was on the series from 1979 to 1983, and returned for two reunion specials in 1997 and 2000 (The Hollywood Reporter). Although The Dukes of Hazzard was a massive hit, the sort of money TV actors make today had not been mainstreamed or practised in the late 1970s.

Hurst was also seen in shows such as Happy Days, M*A*S*H, Gunsmoke, The Bob Newhart Show, and The Wonder Years. His film work also included Steel Magnolias, The Karate Kid Part III, and Earth Girls Are Easy.

Rick Hurst also dabbled in other television works, playing Earl Nash on the short-lived 1983 ABC adaptation of the British series Fawlty Towers. The show was canceled after only 10 episodes.

He is survived by his son, actor Ryan Hurst, who has played roles in hit series such as Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. Amidst his death, tributes continue to pour in from the fans and industry colleagues.
