Ryan Reynolds is reportedly quietly developing a Mutant team-up film for the next MCU saga. The scoop suggests that he's thinking bigger than Wade Wilson, although details and confirmation about the story are still awaited. The news was reported by industry insider Daniel RPK, who made the revelation on his Patreon website.

The news co-incides with a previous report by The Hollywood Reporter that the actor was working on treatments for a film that would pair Deadpool with three or four X-Men type characters. Although the report claimed that Reynolds had not pitched the idea yet to Marvel, it seems now development is going steady, although confirmation is still yet to come.

Many sources reporting on the project talked about Reynolds' plan to lean towards an ensemble setup that lets characters carry the emotional and narrative weight while Wade exists as the chaotic, meta flavored foil. In other words, expect the movie to lean into team dynamics rather than making Deadpool the headliner. That approach gives Marvel room to reintroduce or recast mutants without relying on one star to carry everything.

For quite a while, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool has been one of the most iconic characters in the MCU. His last film with the studio, Deadpool & Wolverine was a gigantic success that brought in millions, which makes more sense why the studio would probably let him ideate a project.

On the contrary, the actor has been hesitant about his return to the screens as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool. During December of 2024, Reynolds appeared on Variety's Actors on Actors, where he opened up about what's Deadpool's future, as he said that he sees the hero as more of a supporting character and if he returns, he would most likely return in someone else's movie.

Ryan Reynolds also added that while it's fun to play Deadpool, it takes away a lot of time from his life, especially as a father.

“It (Deadpool & Wolverine) came six years after the last one. Part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. You can't take your hand off the stick through all of it – from development to post-production into marketing and promo. I have four kids and I don't ever want to be on first-name basis with any of them. No, I don't ever want to be absentee and I don't want to miss them. I kind of die inside when I see their face, they have a competition, a sports thing or something, and I missed it.”

As of now, all we can do is wait and see what shape Ryan Reynolds' rumored project is going to take. More details are awaited soon.
