Samuel L. Jackson celebrates wife LaTanya Richardson’s Tony nomination with Angela Bassett, Spike Lee, and more at all-star bash

Actor Samuel L. Jackson was recently seen celebrating a special moment to congratulate his wife, LaTanya Richardson, who has been nominated for a Tony Award for her role as Claudine Jasper in the play Purpose.

The couple, who have been married for over forty years, were joined by their closest friends from the industry. Just like Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson has had a long career in entertainment. Back in 2014, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role as Lorraine Hasberry in A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Kenny Leon.

The special cocktail party hosted by Samuel L. Jackson to honor his wife's achievement was held on Sunday in New York. According to People Magazine, the party was co-hosted by Spike Lee, the renowned real estate advisor, Spencer Means, and Tonya Lewis Lee.

In the pictures and videos of the event shared by Deborah Roberts, the other famous faces spotted included Angela Bassett, Debra Martin Chase, Kathy Chenault, Danielle Brooks, Harry Lennix, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, among others. According to Page Six, Samuel L. Jackson and the couple's daughter, Zoe Jackson, an Emmy-nominated producer, gave heartfelt speeches congratulating Richardson on her continued success.

On May 1, shortly after the Tony Award nominations were announced, Samuel L. Jackson took to Instagram to express his excitement for her well deserved success. He wrote:

"CONGRATULATIONS TO THE INCREDIBLE @ltjackson_ ON THIS MOST DESERVED RECOGNITION. WHEN DIAMONDS MEET, TONYS HAPPEN.💎@purposeonbroadway @thetonyawards."

Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson celebrated forty-one years of marriage in 2022. In their interview with People Magazine, the power couple spoke about the everlasting strength of their bond. Richardson said:

"In the beginning, we always said the most revolutionary thing that Black people could do was stay together, raise their children with the nucleus of having a father and a mother, since everybody likes to pretend that that's not the dynamic of the African American family. That it's just children out here being raised by women, which we know is false. In order to change that narrative, we made a decision to say, 'We are going to stay together no matter what. We'll figure it out.'"

According to People Magazine, in addition to LaTanya Richardson's nomination for Best Actress in a leading Role, the play received a nomination for Best Play, and along with nominations for other cast members like Harry Lennix, Kara Young, and others.
