Mathew McConaughey is making a fiery return to the big screen with Apple TV's The Lost Bus, a survival drama about one of the deadliest wildfire incidents in the world. Based on Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson, the film shows McConaughey as a bus driver who is fighting to keep a bus full of children safe in the middle of a disaster.

The trailer opens with the actor playing Kevin McKay, a bus driver, having a moment with his mom as he tells her that he's struggling with life. We then see America Ferrera's Mary Ludwig, a dedicated teacher at the school who's children Kevin drives every day. As the trailer progresses, Ludwig's voiceover plays in the backdrop of the visuals as she says, “I thought that I’d be safe here, follow the rules, and nothing bad would happen.” Kevin then adds “I’ve spent my entire life trying to escape. Then, after a few years, my life turned to shame,”

The story then takes a turn as Kevin receives a call that twenty two children need to be picked up and taken home. In a voice over he says,

“When I first got the call to go pick up the kids, I started to think that maybe I could earn a second chance. But I was too late for second chances,”

The trailer then shows the visuals of a fiery California as it burns, while Kevin continues to make it his goal to make sure the kids reach home safely. “I have 22 kids on that bus. I got to get them to their parents,” he says, as scenes of him driving the bus through the fire follow.

The early glimpses of The Lost Bus show Kevin's journey not just as a survival story, but as a poignant search for redemption with withMcConaughey embodying the role of a man who finally finds purpose when the odds are most against him.

Talking about his role in The Lost Bus, McConaughey told Variety in an interview,
