Rachel McAdams is taking a different route with Sam Raimi's Send Help, a survival thriller that flips the dynamic between two co-workers as they are stranded on an island. Our first sneak peek at the project is full of imagery that portrays the duo working hard to survive: hunting, severed animal heads, animalistic tendencies and the million dollar question of if they will make it out alive.

The trailer opens with McAdams as Linda Liddle, an employee who is at the receiving end of disrespect from her boss Bradley Preston, played by Dylan O'Brien. Things take a quick turn as a plane crash leaves them stranded on an island together as lone survivors. As they try to overcome past tension and thrive together to survive, a battle ensues over who will make it out alive and at what cost.

Raimi, known for The Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell, returns to his horror roots with this project. He describes the story as an underdog tale of transformation and empowerment, highlighting Linda’s evolution from overlooked employee to island survivalist. The film is penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, writers behind Friday the 13th and Baywatch, promising a blend of dark comedy and psychological tension.

If you're used to watching Rachel McAdams in romantic comedies and 2000s dramas, Send Help will certainly blow your mind. The About Time actress is seen in uncharted territory, as a woman desperate to survive, blood ridden, feral and fighting to survive. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Raimi describes her role as "the most capable, hardworking, and overlooked member of her consulting firm's strategy and planning team," but once she's on the island, she's handy with spears and everything sharp, killing animals for food, hunting, fishing and building objects out of trees.

Speaking to the outlet, Raimi spoke about the idea of Send Help and said,

"I found the two lead characters, Linda and Bradley, to be complex, human, and constantly at odds with each other in often conflicting situations. The pitch was outrageous and original, all the while tracking these two in their conflict as their power dynamic changed dramatically. I knew right away that I wanted to direct this picture."

He then continued to talk about how the office duo's power dynamics were explored in the film as he adds,

"What I really love about this story is that it's an underdog tale at its core. Not only is it about survival on a deserted island, but it's also a story of female empowerment and transformation. Watching a once-powerful boss find himself dependent on someone he underestimated is satisfying. Our story is universal! We need to encourage our society to treat people with respect and kindness, regardless of status. It's especially rewarding to see our heroine, Linda, come into her own in such an unexpected environment."

Send Help will be in theaters on January 30, 2026.
