After Julia Roberts' response went viral, it didn't take much time for X users to chime in with their opinions. A section of users called out the actress for her Hollywood background and support for the Democratic Party. A user wrote:

"Seth Rogan said stealing is just part of living in the city. If Julia Roberts is only now mad about looters because it is now reaching her and her hollywood friends. – Don't care."

The X post referenced Seth Rogen's 2021 comment when he replied to vlogger Casey Neistat's tweet about being a victim of a car burglary in LA.

Internet reacts harshly to Julia Roberts' message for the LA looters

In the past, many celebrities who are perceived to be woke have faced criticism for their stance on looting and rioting. At the same time, conservative supporters have also accused the Democrat government of the increased lawlessness and riots. Thus, Julia Roberts, who is a known Democrat supporter and a Hollywood icon, received backlash from the X users (primarily right-wing supporters).

Here's a look at some of the comments that the Pretty Woman actress received:

"Not nice. Its not fun when it your things. The things you worked for. Items you love and cherish. Imagine how Laken Rileys family feels. Im sorry anyone has the experience looting and deadly man made fires," a user wrote.
"Gee, Julia Robert's supported the lawless policies of the Biden Administration. Now she wants to complain when she becomes a victim of those policies. She didn't care when ordinary people were the victims so f her!," an X user wrote, noting Roberts was a Democrat supporter.
"When you give this much money to the Democrats who make looting so easy to do, you lose your right to pretend you have an issue with it," someone pointed out the donations made by the actress to the Democratic Party.
A user targeted Roberts: "She voted for all of it. The thieves, the fires, the destruction. Her signature is on all of it. I'm finding it difficult to sympathize."
Another user shared their anger: "The difference between how typical theft and looting are treated (when the victims are poor or middle class) and how looting is being treated in the fires (when the victims are elite) is telling. – These people are hypocrites."
Someone wrote: "When it affects them, they get mad. – When it affects you, it's because the people looting are entitled to take your stuff that you don't deserve."

On Monday, January 13, 2025, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that nine people were charged with looting amid the wildfires in LA County, according to abc.net.au. The DA charged another accused with arson:

"Today we are here to announce that the promise that we made, when we started this, that these criminals would be arrested, they would be prosecuted, and they will be maximally punished, is a promise we are keeping, as we announce today the charges being filed on 10 different individuals. Nine of them for looting in both – The Palisades and the Eaton fires – and one for arson."

The incident of arson was not connected with the major LA wildfires and was linked with Pioneer Park in Azusa. Apart from revealing the charges during a press conference, DA Hochman asserted that all accused are presumed "innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
