NFL star Shannon Sharpe has recently been making headlines after getting fired from his job at ESPN. The former professional football tight end, Sharpe, joined the sports network ESPN in August 2023 as an analyst after quitting FS1's sports debate program Undisputed. The 57-year-old former football star opened up on his popular podcast Nightcap, which he co-hosts with Chad Ochocinco Johnson, a former football wide receiver, about getting fired from ESPN.
As per People, Shannon Sharpe was accused of se*ual assault and battery earlier this year. While he settled the lawsuit filed against him for $50 million, ESPN cut all ties with him and eventually fired him from his job. Sharpe, on his podcast, not only addressed getting fired from ESPN but also shared why he apologized to his brother, Sterling Sharpe, who is also an NFL star and a former football wide receiver.
Shannon Sharpe, who is a Hall of Famer himself (inducted in 2011), shared that his brother, Sterling, is about to get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and that he did not, at any cost, want the attention to shift from him. Shannon, during his Nightcap podcast, shared with his co-host:
"Really the only thing I asked was like, ‘Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother’s going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.' I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family. This coming out would overshadow everything that he’s worked his entire life for. And unfortunately, you know, it didn’t happen that way."
Shannon mentioned that he apologized to Sterling, who happens to be his older brother, regarding the matter. Shannon recalled:
"He (Sterling) said, ‘Bro, stop apologizing. You don’t have to apologize. I’m your big bro, I’m gonna love you regardless. We all make mistakes.’"
Shannon Sharpe claims he is "extremely private," while addressing the explicit audio that was posted to his Instagram Live

Shannon Sharpe at first stated that his Instagram account was hacked before admitting that he had nothing to do with the matter, when a se*ually explicit audio was shared on his Instagram Live in September 2024. Shannon, during that time, said:
"Obviously I am embarrassed. [I'm] someone that is extremely, extremely private and to have one of your most intimate details, the audio heard for the entire world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons."
