Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry is the latest musician to soft-launch her potential upcoming Hollywood biopic; in her words, she even has a “great actor” in mind for the role. The genre of biopics based on musicians has seen a tremendous boon in success in recent years, with films centred on Sir Elton John, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, and Elvis all receiving overwhelming acclaim.
As Debbie Harry told The Sunday Times UK, she feels that Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh would be her dream casting, saying:
“If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven. I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.”
Interestingly, according to an Entertainment Weekly report from 2020, Pugh has also mentioned Debbie Harry as a famous figure that she would be excited to portray on the big screen. When asked directly about some of her dream roles at the time, she said:
“Blondie, just because she’s so cool.”
While the project seems largely theoretical at this point, it seems like a pairing between Debbie Harry and Florence Pugh would certainly be an interesting watch.

Debbie Harry's current slate of projects
Despite being over 80 years old, Debbie Harry has shown no signs of slowing down. Apart from having a potential biopic in development with Charlotte Wells, the singer also has a second film, this one a documentary, currently in the works. While Harry achieved much of her acclaim for her music, she also tried her hand at acting throughout the 1980s with roles in Hairspray and Videodrome.
In a September 2025 interview, Debbie Harry shared an introspective look at what it means for her to be an artist and how learning 'method acting' has informed her ability to express herself on stage. She said:
“I was fortunate to learn about the Method. The famous actors who used it are all terrific. And I think that maybe nowadays it’s considered normal, or just the way acting’s done.”
Harry delved into the importance of perfecting technique, but also mentioned that feelings paired with those skills are what truly provide the audience with something memorable, saying:
“To be an artist, you have to be able to touch areas that maybe you don’t want to touch, or that you are afraid to touch. And I can’t honestly say that I get there every single time. When you’re doing multiple gigs in a row, you don’t always achieve those moments that you really want to achieve.”
Also of note, Debbie Harry was featured in a 2024 Gucci campaign titled, “We Will Always Have London,” alongside Kelsey Lu.
