In her latest Saturday Night Live (SNL) appearance, Sarah Sherman portrayed an unexpected character, a tipsy raccoon who broke into a Virginia liquor store, downed several bottles of alcohol, and emerged as the hottest search trend online.
On November 29, employees at an Ashland ABC liquor store in Hanover County woke up to shattered bottles and alcohol flushed across the floor, and then found an "extremely inebriated" raccoon. The 'tipsy' animal was eventually retrieved by the animal rescue staff from Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter before being securely returned to its natural habitat.
Interwebs was soon bustling with chatter, with one Reddit user commenting,
I love Sarah. So so funny. She commits to the character.
While another user opined,
“This is the most accurate portrayal of a raccoon I’ve ever seen. Honestly shocked she didn’t knock over the desk and steal Colin’s snacks.”

Sarah Sherman's SNL Skit
On the latest episode of SNL, Sherman parodied the bizarre incident during the 'Weekend Update' segment. Decked in a full raccoon costume, she embodied the drunken “trashed panda” complete with staggering, slurring, and even dragging herself onto the anchor desk, carrying a half-empty bottle.
In character, Sherman jokingly asked co-host Colin Jost,
“What happened last night? Did we hook up?”
Sherman even joked on the 'stereotypical archetypes' about raccoons, namely,
“We hear what you call us. Trash pandas. Dumpster dogs. The Sarah Shermans of the forest.”
To which he co-host Jost quipped,
“You’re not nearly as hairy as Sarah Sherman.”
The reaction online has been immediate and enthusiastic, with fans on Reddit piling in with praises for the comedian.
“Sarah Sherman is hysterical man!”, wrote a user.
While she cheered on her 'absurd comedy',
“They really need to give her more of the absurd, wacky stuff.”

A regular at the long-running weekend variety show, Sherman is busy behind the scenes promoting her latest standup special, Sarah Squirm: Live + in the Flesh, which is set to premiere later this month on HBO.
