Blue Steel star Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in Freakier Friday, a sequel to the 2003 classic fantasy comedy film Freaky Friday, recently opened up about almost meeting the late Princess Diana on a movie set. Lee Curtis, who reunited with Lindsay Lohan in Nisha Ganatra's Freakier Friday, which was released on August 8, 2025, took to social media and reflected on her near encounter with Diana, who died in 1997.
The late Princess of Wales, Diana, who was Charles III's first wife and the mother of Prince Harry and William, died in a serious car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. She was 36 at the time. During the car crash, she was with her partner Dodi Fayed, an Egyptian producer and filmmaker, and driver Henri Paul.
The 66-year-old Jamie Lee Curtis took to her Instagram on August 31, 2025, and shared a picture of Diana with her two sons, with a long caption in which she revealed that she "almost met" Diana on a film set.
As it was Princess Diana's 28th death anniversary, Jamie Lee Curtis paid a tribute to her in an Instagram post. The True Lies actress wrote:
"She was to visit the set of the follow-up to A Fish Called Wanda, Fierce Creatures, and we were shooting at Pinewood [studios, 20 miles west of London]…"
Lee Curtis went ahead and explained how she took a break, and said:
She (Jamie Lee Curtis) “jumped in a golf cart and drove the mile back to the dressing room to use the restroom,” during which time Princess Diana arrived on set with her sons.
She further added:
"My driver started banging on the door, saying that she had arrived with her sons, and I jumped into the golf cart, and by the time I got back, she was walking away."
Jamie Lee Curtis, who, besides being a highly successful and well-established actress, is also a producer and children's author, discussed how she sent a letter to Diana the next day and explained why she wasn't on the set at that time. Interestingly, she mentioned that she had also received a reply, a letter, from Diana. Jamie Lee Curtis recalled:
"[She was] thanking me for writing and understanding, of course, nature calling as it happens to her all the time, and that she looked forward to meeting. She died two months later. I had just returned from England. I remember watching the news..."
