Quinta Brunson, the creator and star of Abbott Elementary, was hosting Saturday Night Live on May 3, 2025, for the second time, with a passionate musical monologue honoring small people, However, pop phenomenon Sabrina Carpenter comically interrupted Brunson's performance.
To the delight of fans, who quickly turned to social media with the ironic statement,
“She Only came for DOMINGO.”
The sketch made fun of their heights, famous short celebrities and the occasional tall intruder.
Quinta Brunson, who is 4'11'', started her monologue by making a joke about how people sometimes literally "look down" on her. She began a musical act that was both empowering and humorous by saying:
“They even tried to cast me as a kid on Abbott Elementary, and I wrote that.
Quinta Brunson then went on to sing:
Being short is amazing, being short is just fine. I’m a cheap date cause I get wasted off of one glass of wine.”
Brunson announced a lineup of superstars with their cutouts, including Simone Biles (4'8"), Kendrick Lamar (5'5"), and Tom Holland (5'7"), while dancers joined her on the stage. As she sang:
“You can flip like Simone, Olympic superstar / Or start a war with Drake, like you’re Kendrick Lamar / You can be like Tom Holland and marry a ten.”
The Grammy-nominated singer came onstage to roaring cheers as soon as Brunson had mentioned "Sabrina Carpenter."
Quinta Brunson, who was surprised, inquired:
“Wait. Sabrina, it’s the real you. What are you doing here?”
Carpetner replied:
“I mean, you were talking about being short, so I thought I’d stop by.”
The "Espresso" singer who had been in the SNL building joined in on the joke, singing smoothly.
Brunson inquired:
“Can I ask you something, one shorty to another? When you eat short ribs, does it just taste like ribs?”
Carpenter answered:
“I’ve never thought about it like that, but yeah.”
She then asked:
“Here’s a question for you: When you read short stories, do they feel like novels?”
Quinta Brunson answered:
Yes! Finally, someone who understands. But being short isn't all bad."
They continued singing till they were joined by SNL Cast member Marcello Hernandez, who is 5'6''. Upon being asked by Brunson if he was there to join them, don't he short people skit, he replied:
“I just thought I would come stand next to you because it makes me look super tall.”
The women encouraged him to be proud of his height.
And then out of nowhere, Dwayne Wade arrived as a towering surprise guest, saying:
"I really love this song."
Brunson inquired:
“Dwyane, sorry, what are you doing here?”
NBA Champion, Wade, who is 6'4'', said:
“I was just in the audience watching SNL, and I heard your song about being short, and I felt seen. In basketball world, that’s like 4’10”. Shaq’s like 7’1”!”
Quinta Brunson said with a giggle:
“Alright, I can’t say no to you, Dwyane Wade.”
And they continued to sing as the dancers joined them.
