Sophia Hammons opened up about her experience working with Jamie Lee Curtis on Disney’s upcoming sequel Freakier Friday. The 18-year-old actress said that Curtis was open to almost everything on the set but something, but one thing - singing.

During an interview with PEOPLE at the 2025 Women in Film (WIF) Honors in Los Angeles, Hammons explained that Curtis was collaborative, kind, and willing to give anything a go that she encountered along her path. However, she divulged that the aging actress had one distinct limit as far as acting was concerned.

This was a historic occasion for both actresses. Curtis, who was given the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award that night, also said about having to work with the younger generation of actors who will continue the legacy of Freaky Friday.

Sophia Hammons said Curtis, 66, was enthusiastic and collaborative throughout filming. However, she had one firm rule.

“That’s the one thing about Jamie. She’s always like, ‘I’m not going to sing,’” Hammons shared. “It’s actually the one thing that she’s like, ‘I’m not going to do.’”

Hammons explained that Curtis was willing to take on any challenge except singing. Beyond that, she described the veteran actress as supportive, open to new ideas, and easy to work with.

“Otherwise, she’s game for all of it. She’s so collaborative. She is always open to other ideas and working with other people. I mean, it was awesome to get to play off of her,” Hammons said.

Sophia Hammons also recalled a fun moment from filming that turned into a memorable blooper.

“We were just shoving doughnuts in each other’s mouths,” she said, laughing. “I’m pretty sure Jamie ate 36 doughnuts that day. But again, she’s game for it. She’s awesome.”

The actress, who plays Lily Reyes in the film, said she felt lucky to share scenes with Curtis. Their characters switch bodies in the story, which gives them plenty of moments to connect and perform together.

“She is lovely, she’s wonderful, and she’s so strong,” Hammons said. “Her existence, on set, but also just in my life, has taught me so much.”

At the same event, Curtis spoke about how special it felt to work with younger actors like Sophia Hammons and Butters. She said seeing them step into important roles reminded her of her own early career and the inspiration she took from her mother, actress Janet Leigh.

“The younger generation like Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters, who play the two teenagers in Freakier Friday — they’re the next generation,” Curtis said. “They’re the next ones up to bat.”

Curtis said that mentoring and guiding younger talent has become one of the most rewarding parts of her career. Watching Hammons and Butters grow through the filming process made her proud of the future of Hollywood.
