Four unnamed housekeepers are suing legendary R&B singer Smokey Robinson for $50 million, accusing him of s*xually assaulting them for years.

According to Reuters, the lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, also accuses Robinson's wife of concealing the abuse and contributing to a hostile work environment. The plaintiffs are suing under the Jane Doe pseudonyms to keep their identity concealed.

The women, identified as Hispanic, are accusing the 85-year-old of s*xual battery, assault, false imprisonment, and gender violence. They claim the abuse took place at Robinson's residence in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, beginning in 2007 and continuing into as recently as 2024.

Smokey Robinson is a renowned R&B and pop singer-songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he boasts a net worth of $150 million. With a career spanning over six decades under his belt, he is known for having formed the band The Miracles and serving as its lead vocalist.

Everything we know about the lawsuit against Smokey Robinson and his wife

The four women reportedly worked as housekeepers at Smokey Robinson's LA home, and according to Newsweek, the latter's wife, Frances Robinson, has also been named as a defendant.

"Plaintiffs explicitly told defendant Robinson on numerous occasions that they were not interested in his advances and objected to his forceful, physical, sexual, and harmful conduct," the complaint reads.

The women are accusing the singer of regularly touching their "entire bodies" without their consent. Frances also allegedly had "full knowledge" of her husband's behaviour but did nothing to stop it, the lawsuit claims.

One woman, who is now going by Jane Doe 1 in the 27-page lawsuit, alleges she was first assaulted in March 2023. She claims it went on until she resigned in February 2024. According to the lawsuit, a typical Saturday entailed Robinson taking his wife to a nail salon and then rushing home, knowing it would be just him and the alleged victim. The lawsuit then claims he would force himself on her.

The woman claims she fought Robinson's advances several times, reminding him he was married, to no avail. She claims to have been abused at his hands as many as seven times. Another woman outlined "brutal" instances along the same lines, with her encounters spanning May 2014 through February 2020.

Frances Robinson also "perpetuated a hostile work environment" by consistently screaming at the women and using "ethnically pejorative words and language," the filing claims.

The four women also claim Smokey Robinson and his wife failed to pay them minimum wage or overtime if they worked beyond eight hours. Jane Doe 4 also claimed she regularly traveled with the pair but was never financially compensated.

The alleged victims did not speak up in the past out of fear of losing their livelihoods, among other things, including public embarrassment, a potential implication on their immigration status, or the threat of being intimidated by Robinson's "celebrity status and his influential friends and associates," the complaint states.

The women are being represented by attorneys John Harris and Herbert Hayden. During a press conference Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles, Harris told reporters:

"We're seeking damages of $50 million dollars. Obviously no amount of money can compensate them for what Mr. Robinson subjected them to."

At the time of writing, Smokey Robinson has yet to issue a statement acknowledging the lawsuit.
