Soccer star George Baldock, died last year on 9 October in a swimming pool. The former Premier League and Free international sadly drowned in a swimming pool.
Nine months later, an inquest at Milton Keynes Coroner's Court found that his drowning death was an accident brought on by an unspecified heart condition.
The 31-year-old's body was found by his housekeeper in the swimming pool in the Southern Athens district of Glyfada. He had just joined the Greek football team Panathinaikos and was United Kingdom bound as he didn't want to miss his son's birthday.
Greek paramedics and police arrived quickly. Despite emergency CPR efforts, he was declared dead at the spot when officers dragged him out of the water.
On July 23, 2025, George Baldock was found dead and his death was ruled out as an accidental death. He had no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system, according to a postmortem investigation. It was discovered, however, that Baldock had megacardia, a disorder in which the heart is excessively enlarged.
According to the inquest obtained by People magazine, it read:
"A post mortem examination confirmed that there were no drugs or alcohol in his system and that he had a very large heart that would have meant that he was susceptible to heart arrhythmias."
According to the study, the defender would have been vulnerable to cardiac arrhythmias, which are sudden, irregular heartbeats that can result in unconsciousness or quick cardiac arrest. According to experts, this might have caused Baldock to lose consciousness while swimming, which could have led to his accidental drowning.
