Everything you need to know about the State Fair of Texas:

Fox News has reported that the gates for this year's State Fair of Texas, held at Fair Park, opened at 10 a.m. on Friday. The opening day parade kicked off at noon, though there will also be an inaugural ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on the Hall of State steps.

The State Fair Classic between Prairie View A&M and Grambling State is scheduled for Sunday at the Cotton Bowl, while the Red River Rivalry between Texas and OU is scheduled for October 11. The fair officially concludes on October 19.

However, there are a few policies to keep in mind. The fair opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day between Sunday and Thursday, but from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

As for its new policies, all high schoolers will now have to purchase discounted tickets from Monday through Thursday, as opposed to its once-free tickets. Attendees will also have to carry a clear bag while entering, which means all purses and clutches 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches or smaller will not be allowed inside.

As for the food items, this year will see an array of brand new eats, including a matcha cream float, fried pickle bombs, and a smash burger called “What on Earth is This?”

Houston Public Media has reported that the renovations this year include added restrooms, concessions, premium seating, a new press box, and better team facilities. These will mostly be found on the west side of the stadium overlooking the park. There are also 14 escalators and several-story entryways that allow visitors easier access to the Art Deco-style bowl.

Fox News has reported that there will also be two new rides this year: the Thunderbird, which has been described as "the tallest portable swing tower in North America," and the Defender. Attendees will also be privy to USA Breakdancers as they pair 80s music with high-octane choreography.
