DC Studios is developing a new Wonder Woman movie, serving as a reboot of Gal Gadot's version. They have hired Ana Nogueira to write the script. Nogueira is also the writer of the upcoming superhero film Supergirl, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.

This film will be part of the DCU that launched with the recently released Superman. Let's examine the details of this upcoming reboot. The studios are expected to reboot several major superhero characters as the DC universe continues to expand.

Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira to write Wonder Woman movie

Variety has reported that DC Studios has hired Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira to write the Wonder Woman reboot movie. Nogueira has also been working on a live-action adaptation of Teen Titans for DC. Wonder Woman has become one of the studio's priorities lately. In June, DC Studios chief James Gunn revealed that the film is currently being written. More details about its cast, crew, and plot are expected to be announced in the future.

Additionally, the studio is developing a television series, Paradise Island, set in Themyscira, the home of Wonder Woman. The character made its first live-action film adaptation in 2017, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot in the titular role. The film met with positive critical response and grossed $822 million at the box office. This defied the general perception that women-led films don't find an audience.

Its success led to a sequel titled Wonder Woman 1984, where Jenkins and Gadot reunited. The film was released in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike the first one, the sequel received mixed reviews and did not break even on its budget. A third installment was halted after DC Studios underwent an overhaul, with Gunn and Peter Safran taking top positions.

Gadot reprised her role in Justice League, Zack Snyder's Justice League, and The Flash. The rebooted DC Universe began with Superman, with several films and TV shows planned under Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

This will feature Supergirl, Clayface, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and an untitled Bane and Deathstroke film. Upcoming TV shows include Creature Commandos, Peacemaker Season 2, Lanterns, Waller, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold.
